Public Engagement Assistant (Student)

Location: Victoria, BC
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week, 15-week duration from April 28, 2025, to August 8, 2025. Please note that this position will occasionally require work during evenings and weekends to support event schedules.
Salary: $21.63 per hour (Effective March 22, 2025) – Unionized Position, CUPE Local 410, Pay Grade 2

About the Role
The Public Engagement Events Assistant supports the AGGV’s Visitor Experience Department, educational outreach initiatives, and the AGGV’s largest community public engagement event, the Art Gallery Paint-In. This role involves assisting with project management, logistical coordination, and sharing pre-approved event information to ensure the success of the annual street festival, which hosts 50,000 attendees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with event planning, scheduling, and logistics to ensure smooth operations
  • Support coordination of event materials, signage, and on-site needs
  • Maintain databases for participants, volunteers, and sponsors
  • Communicate pre-approved event details to artists, partners, and stakeholders
  • Distribute promotional materials and support accessibility initiatives
  • Help collect feedback, compile event reports, and suggest improvements
  • Provide general support to the Visitor Experience Department as needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Must be eligible for funding under the Young Canada Works program and registered under its terms.
  • Must be a current post-secondary student, returning to post-secondary school in September 2025. Enrolled in Arts, Art History, Education, Events Management, Cultural Management, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in arts, community engagement, and event planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail, organization, and teamwork
  • Experience with event planning or program coordination (preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office & Outlook; experience with Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Maps is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of survey research and data collection is a plus
  • Physical ability for light lifting (up to 40lbs) is an asset; all tasks will adhere to OHS guidelines.
