Paul Rand
BiographyPaul Rand came from Bonn, Germany as a visiting teenager but stayed when the First World War broke out. He studied art under Jock MacDonald, Varley, and W.P. Weston and worked as a commercial artist. Like MacDonald he was inspired by the Group of Seven and American regional artists. As a result he depicted the BC landscape with stylization and interest in stressing volume. He can be seen as one of the artists including Carr, MacDonald, Weston, and Varley who revolutionized the perception of this province's landscape.
