DescriptionFrancesco Bartolozzi 1727-1815 engraver, pupil of Joseph Wagner in Venice, came to England in 1764 at the invitation of Dalton, liberarian to George III, where he continued to make stipple engravings after Guercino. His sentimental style & great technical skill made him very successful & his output & that of his students, was very great. He was a foundation member of the Academy but his style of life was greater that his great success & in 1802 he accepted the Directorship of the Academy at Lisbon.Status
