DescriptionThe kingdom of Sukhothai in Thailand was comparatively short-lived, lasting from the mid 13th to mid 15th century. Nevertheless, it gave birth to one of the most original schools of Buddhist sculpture to arise anywhere in the Indianized world, and it was to have a considerable influence on the subsequent course of Buddhist art in Thailand.

This bronze sculpture shows the typical features of Sukhothai period such as the oval shaped head, the thick curled knobby hair, nicely rendered lips, and the downcast eyes with curvy lids which give an expression of profound serenity.
