DescriptionIn old Japan cultured men and women often expressed their gratitude to their friends by composing poems such as this. Chiba Yatao was a scholar and humanitarian with whom Nanzan exchanged several poems, and this verse celebrates an outdating they had together. Nanzan one of the most artistic of Zen calligraphers, and this is a fine example of his elegant brushwork.Status
