DescriptionThe Ayuthya period made Buddhist statues of the highest quality, of great variety and of astonishing vitality. Ayuthya sculptures like this example were extremely rich and proficient in every technique of sculpture. Ayuthya sculptures were the last of the great Thai schools of Buddhist sculpture. This example has exquisite and detailed adornments and earrings dangling from elongated ear lobes, which are typical of the period.
